The Department of Health is urging members of the public to take part in ongoing consultations on the hospital reconfiguration framework, which aims to reshape healthcare services across Northern Ireland.
The consultation, “Hospitals – Creating a Network for Better Outcomes,” was launched on 2 October 2024 and explores key aspects of hospital service reorganisation. Its goal is to ensure sustainable healthcare services by improving hospital networks, optimising resources, and enhancing patient access to essential treatments.
Health Minister Mike Nesbitt has emphasised the importance of public involvement in shaping the future of healthcare. Speaking about the consultation, he stated:
“The pressures in our health and social care system highlight the urgent need for reform. Our goal is not to cut costs or close hospitals, but to ensure patients receive the right care at the right time. By reorganising our hospital network, we can improve efficiency, enhance patient outcomes, and create a more resilient healthcare system.
“I strongly encourage everyone to participate in the consultation and share their views before the deadline on 28 February 2025. Your input is vital in shaping the future of hospital services in Northern Ireland.”

“Access to healthcare is a fundamental right, and rural communities must be considered in this reconfiguration. Our online event will provide a platform for rural voices to be heard and ensure they receive meaningful responses from policymakers.”
